  • Boutique Beats: A Tribute to MCA by Chris Read

Posted on May 11, 2012 by Robbi

Shop favourite, Chris Read has delivered where many have recently failed. I could write a load of words but I feel I need to quote the man himself about the inspiration that came for this mix from the sad news of Adam's passing.

"Predictably, the internet has been awash with MCA / Beastie Boys tribute mixes in the days that have passed since the untimely passing of Adam Yauch. I've listened to many, enjoyed a few but, as I often do, felt the need to put my own mark on it all. So, in less than 24 hours I set about putting together 'Boutique Beats', not your standard 'best of', but a collection of some of my favourites, laced with original breaks samped by the Beastie Boys (largely but not exclusively for the Paul's Boutique album), acapellas, remixes and plenty else besides."

You can also check Chris's thoughts on MCA's passing over here at his Music Of Substance blog.

    Cheers Chris.

  • DJ HouseShoes The Making Part 1

Posted on April 26, 2012 by Robbi

Too hyped for this! Anyone who knows about Detroit knows that HouseShoes is the fucking man. He is dropping his first producer's record called Let It Go on June 19 via Tres Records. It is entirely produced by the man himself with vocals from a who's who of Hip Hop including Alchemist, Roc Marciano, Guilty Simpson, Black Milk, Quelle Chris, MED, Oh No and many many more.

To wet your appetite slightly he has released "The Makings" featuring previously released joints from the likes of MED, Quelle Chris, Invincible, Boog Brown, Quelle, Roc Marciano and audio testimonials from no over than Rich Medina, Black Milk, Gaslamp Killer, Phife, Exile, and others speaking on the main man's 2 decade career. Don't sleep on this.

  • DJ ReMike : A Tribute to Tribe.

Posted on April 26, 2012 by Robbi

Everyone knows that we are into Tribe Called Quest in a big way in the shop as they are one of the most prolific and influential hip hop groups of all time, ever. With the two complimenting voices of Q-Tip and Phife and Ali Shaheed on the ones and twos smashing it, they are and were a force to be reckoned with (not forgetting Jarobi, of course). No one has came close to their status since who could say they are not influenced by this crew from Queens.

So for your listening pleasure we have delved into Diggers Union archives for this one and in true TDU fashion they have come correct with this official tribute tape.

DJ ReMike has teamed up with The Diggers Union to bring you some unreleased tracks and ReMike Exclusives and Freestyles. Peep the list then download.
